I have colorectal cancer ….
Cancer is nothing more than
unrestrained mutated cellular growth. Why then does this word strike such
fear in the hearts of all who hear it? Perhaps it is because cancer
represents a world that most of us would prefer not to learn of and
inhabit. Perhaps it is because it destroys our illusion of control of our
lives.
Cancer has no respect for
human dignity or life. It regularly attacks young and old, strong and
weak, the devout and the unbelievers. Cancer can, and does, affect those
who live in mansions and those who live in cardboard boxes.
Cancer doesn't play fair.
My cancer is tentatively staged at T3N1M0 (approximately stage 3). It is serious, and in the best scenarios will require months of therapies and major surgery. In the silence and loneliness of the post midnight period, one may wonder if there is anything positive about this experience. On first thought, one might think no, but to fall victim to this discouraging and narrow point of view would sadly serve only to miss God's grace and provision. While no one can do this for me, I have never felt any less alone than I do at this time in my life.
Many laymen and scientists will suggest that you,
and you alone, must fight this most dreadful disease. But to take this
narrow and parochial view would overlook two important facts.
One, this view overlooks the innate goodness of man.
This goodness has led to a tidal wave of support from my church and
community, so touching that I can not help but shed tears of joy and
gratitude over the many deeds and promises of support that we have
received.
Two, and most importantly that God alone holds the
final prognosis in His hands. He is the greatest of all healers.
Read Psalm 91
which says, “His faithful promises are your armor & protection. “
My faith and trust is in God. I believe that He will give me the
strength to travel this journey and no matter where the journey takes me
that He wants to walk it with me.
Lastly, but by no means last, I have 11 dear reasons
to put everything I have into this fight.
